The Story of Star and Prince |
| |
| Star
and her mate, Prince, were relinquished by their owner to Las Vegas
Basset Rescue. Star is 10 years old and Prince is approx. 8 years
old. Prince had massive tumors on his body that obviously needed
removal. Star seemed okay by appearance, but acted a bit sluggish.
They were immediately whisked to vet clinics for complete check ups.
These poor hounds had been medically neglected for years. Here are
their stories...... |

|
Star: This gal is a testament to how much a dog can
suffer and still carry on. But what choice did she have? While being
medically evaluated the vet noticed very frequent urination and
blood in Star's urine. An x-ray of the bladder showed a mass. In
surgery, 150+ stones were removed from her bladder. Please note the
ruler atop the picture of the stones, it indicates the size of the
stones. The vet believes these stones formed over many years, from
untreated urinary infections. One can only imagine the pain Star
suffered. Her whimpers of discomfort went unheeded. Thankfully, Star
recovered well from her surgery and is feeling much better. We wish
to thank Dr. Mark Beerenstrauch and the wonderful staff at Durango
Animal Hospital for giving Star a new, pain-free life. Here are some
pictures of Star in her now happier times, living with her foster
mom, Emily. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! As Star recovered at her foster
home, Emily discovered that Star is totally deaf! This was never
revealed to LVBR by the previous owner--or they just didn't know.
Star copes well. Until she was in a more one-on-one situation no one
suspected she couldn't hear. She has a wonderfully sweet personality
and loves everyone. Now she needs someone to love HER and give her a
Forever Home.
April 3,
2008:
Star needs a new foster home to
lounge around in. Emily has a change in living situation and will no
longer be able to foster Star. Our thanks go out to Emily for all
she has done. If YOU or someone you know can help this sweet ol' gal
out with a spot, please email Kathleen at
delaneyrescue@gmail.com Thank you! |

PRINCE: This handsome boy was covered with tumors.
The one on his back and side was huge--open and ulcerated (no
"before" picture, lucky for our readers!). He also had smaller
tumors on other parts of his body. The vet feared it was a malignant
cancer. Prince's bloodwork was pretty good--except it showed he had
severe hypothyroidism (low thyroid levels). No surgery could be done
until Prince was on corrective meds for at least a month and the
levels returned to normal. As you can see by this picture, Prince
had his surgery. It looks like he was cut in two and put back
together! Prince is recovering well and the biopsies came back as
benign--no cancer. Hallelujah! We wish to thank Dr. Raul Arteaga and
his always loving staff at Sahara Animal Hospital for taking care of
Prince's needs. We also wish to thank Steve & Angie who are
fostering Prince. Please consider adding this "Survivor" to your
home. He won't be a FrankenBasset for very long--he'll look like new
before you know it! This Patchwork Basset needs a loving home.
Here's the scoop from Steve and Angie:
Prince is a very sweet
and loving boy. He's a bit of a conversationalist at times. Mostly
when trying to tell you something such as "It's time to eat!"
Needless to say, he's a hearty eater. He'll also grab the leash in
his mouth and bark at you "It's time for a walk!" Great on walks and
loves to go out as much as possible. His favorite indoor activity is
lounging around on the couch and floor. He's not intimidated by the
other dogs in the house and will always come over to you for his
share if you happen to be dishing out any loving. |

Las Vegas Basset
Rescue could never turn away hounds such as Star and Prince. They
are the ones that need us the most. But these needs have a price.
Star's total bill was approx. $1,300.00. Prince's bill was approx.
$700.00. These costs include lab work, medications, surgeries,
recovery time in hospital and boarding fees. LVBR desperately needs
help, so that we can continue to help other incoming dogs. |
