Farewell to Gabi http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 12

Kiki (left) and Gabi (right), litter mates and deeply bonded sisters, came to LVBR over 2 years ago, when they were 13 years old. They have been in loving foster care with Cindy Johnson and her daughters since that time. Gabi was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and today lost her battle with the disease. Although this is sad news, we must not lose sight of all the happiness and good times Gabi had with the Johnson family as she finished out her 15 years of being a beautiful Basset. We send our sympathies to Cindy and her daughters, Caitlin and Mackenzie. Gabi's sister Kiki will remain with them, receiving not only the love she's been blessed to have from the Johnsons all along--but also the share of love they always gave to Gabi. Today, another Basset angel earned her

They were relinquished to our rescue when their family could no longer care for them. If you would like to meet them, please fill out the online application here on the website. If it's an offer to foster, just put "fostering" next to your name. We have several more new basset clients to introduce to you in the next few days and they will need foster homes also. Lucy & Bandit--Forever Friends http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 16

Look at these sweet faces. Do you notice how they sit together, touching one another? They love & depend on each other. Meet bonded pair Lucy (darker coloring) and Bandit. When their owner went into assisted living, relatives dropped Lucy & Bandit at the high-kill shelter, where they surely would have been euthanized due to their age. LVBR would not let that happen. After all--being a little older should not warrant a death sentence. If it did--many of us would be in serious trouble. Lucy and Bandit still have sage advice to hand out to the many young whippersnapper Bassets out there! Lucy and Bandit are about 10 years old--but they still have a spring in their step and can get jiggy with it. In good health and just had dentals. They get along famously with other friendly dogs and

St. Paddy Day Winner! http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 17

The St. Patrick's Day Parade was a hit! Such a success that LVBR was awarded the "Most Original" trophy! (Update 4/08, from Darlene: We've put many of the parade pictures in an online album. At the moment, having a problem putting an actual link in here--but here's the web address for you to cut and paste.) http://darlenecarr.kodakgallery.com Enjoy! We have so many people to thank. Most importantly--the Bassets themselves. They were all so good. They charmed the crowds and the judges. And, they wore their costumes and bandanas so proudly. We didn't get a chance to do an actual count, but we think we had over 60 hounds. Many of these dogs were once homeless, but now have loving homes. We are so very proud of them and their families. Our adopters and supporters are very special people.

Foster Homes Needed http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 22

LVBR is always in need of Foster Homes. We have approx. 10-15 dogs boarding at any one time. Each day there is a fee for each dog that is boarding. The bill is always rising. While the dogs are well cared for in boarding, they'd much prefer a home setting. We do our best to place just the right dog into your home--one that gets along well with your other pets and has a personality that jibes with yours. We have a variety, take your pick. Young, old, fast, slow, shy, confident, big, small, purebred, mixed, well-behaved or mischievous! If for any reason fostering is not working out, the hound returns to us. People ask: What if I fall in love with my foster dog and want to adopt him/her? Foster homes are given first choice in adoption-just let us

Cubby http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 25

Cubby lost his battle with cancer on July 3rd. He came to our rescue this past Christmas from the local shelter, where he had been abandoned in a neglected state. It wasn't long before we learned Cubby had an inoperable tumor. However, he was able to enjoy many pain free months, basking in the love and care of his foster parents, Wayne and Mary. In these past 6 months he knew true comfort and contentment. Then, in his last hours he knew the kindness of loving arms as he was given the final gift of peace. Sad though it may be, sometimes this is also the purpose of rescue. Rest in peace Cubby.

I, Madeline.... http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 26

I, Madeline, am searching. Looking for a new foster home. I have an great one now, but the blind Basset in my current place bumps into me. I know she doesn't mean to, but it annoys the bejeebers out of me! At my age, I don't need the hassle. Look, I'm 13 and I can pretty much guess that I won't be adopted, but I'd just like a fairly quiet place where I can plop down. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I'm a great companion. I can go in and out a doggie door to take care of my business. I'm happy to snooze away on my dog bed (my bed will come with me)and eat my meals (my food and dishes will be provided). LVBR will take care of any medical bills--but, really, I'm in

Helping Las Vegas Basset Rescue http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 29

LVBR continues to take in more homeless hounds. They join the other dogs in our rescue waiting to be adopted. Some dogs are in hospice foster care and will be with LVBR forever. Roosevelt, pictured, came back to LVBR after his adopter passed away. Since his return to us it was discovered Roosevelt has an inoperable cancer. He joins Cubby, also with a terminal cancer, living a contented life with foster parents, Mary and Wayne. We are blessed with many wonderful foster homes--but never enough of them. For many of our adoptable dogs there are no available foster homes, so they are boarding. Medical bills for things like vaccines, spays/neuters, bloodwork, medical tests and surgeries, medications, etc. are piling up at a rapid rate. These medical and boarding bills must be paid. Soon. We do not have unlimited credit.

Eddie's Roadside Memorial http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 30

In 2002 Joe Martori adopted "Eddie" from LVBR. They traveled the highway of life together, Eddie riding shotgun, eventually moving from Las Vegas to Phoenix. Eddie couldn't have been more loved, but Joe always felt he was the one blessed by having Eddie with him all these years. Eddie recently passed away after a bout with cancer and Joe made a very special tribute to his beloved Basset--complete with Eddie's picture for all the world to see. Rest in Peace, Eddie. From Joe: "For the last few years I've been taking photos of roadside crosses and memorials. Eddie was in the passenger seat for most of them--mostly looking annoyed and trying to steal my beef jerky. This is the memorial I had made for him. It's seven feet tall, made of steel and aluminum, anchored in 180 lbs.

Hospice Hound, Cubby http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 31

Cubby came from the shelter in a neglected state. We don't know his age--let's just say he's a "Distinguished Older Gentleman." Cubby had extensive testing, a major dental to fix his rotten mouth, had some lumps removed, and was put on daily medicine to help ease his arthritis aches. In his foster home with Mary and Wayne, Cubby has learned the comforts of a real home. He learned it was okay to sleep on a cushy dog bed and not on the cold hard floor. He learned that food would come regularly, be plentiful, and taste good. He came to know gentle hands. Cubby is relishing each wonderful day being treated as a member of a loving family. He didn't even mind wearing this silly hat when he posed for his picture--he took it all in stride. We hoped he
