Foster Homes Needed http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 4

LVBR is always in need of Foster Homes. We have approx. 10-15 dogs boarding at any one time. Each day there is a fee for each dog that is boarding. The bill is always rising. While the dogs are well cared for in boarding, they'd much prefer a home setting. We do our best to place just the right dog into your home--one that gets along well with your other pets and has a personality that jibes with yours. We have a variety, take your pick. Young, old, fast, slow, shy, confident, big, small, purebred, mixed, well-behaved or mischievous! If for any reason fostering is not working out, the hound returns to us. People ask: What if I fall in love with my foster dog and want to adopt him/her? Foster homes are given first choice in adoption-just let us

Cubby http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 7

Cubby lost his battle with cancer on July 3rd. He came to our rescue this past Christmas from the local shelter, where he had been abandoned in a neglected state. It wasn't long before we learned Cubby had an inoperable tumor. However, he was able to enjoy many pain free months, basking in the love and care of his foster parents, Wayne and Mary. In these past 6 months he knew true comfort and contentment. Then, in his last hours he knew the kindness of loving arms as he was given the final gift of peace. Sad though it may be, sometimes this is also the purpose of rescue. Rest in peace Cubby.

I, Madeline.... http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 8

I, Madeline, am searching. Looking for a new foster home. I have an great one now, but the blind Basset in my current place bumps into me. I know she doesn't mean to, but it annoys the bejeebers out of me! At my age, I don't need the hassle. Look, I'm 13 and I can pretty much guess that I won't be adopted, but I'd just like a fairly quiet place where I can plop down. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I'm a great companion. I can go in and out a doggie door to take care of my business. I'm happy to snooze away on my dog bed (my bed will come with me)and eat my meals (my food and dishes will be provided). LVBR will take care of any medical bills--but, really, I'm in

Garage Sale Update http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 9

The garage sale netted a total of $916, between sales and cash donations! This will help pay a small portion of our outstanding vet medical bills. We hope to have another garage sale in July, so please start gathering your unwanted treasures to help the hounds. All donations help dogs like Sparkles the Basset (pictured)--who just came into our rescue with her friends "Rex", the 16 year old Black Lab and "Jill", the tiny Chihuahua. All three needed medical care. We are now looking for foster homes for all three (separate homes, of course). They will be on the website soon. Next to money, our biggest need is foster homes! We have dogs with a range of personalities--and will suit your needs. From older and slow, to young and energetic--and speeds in-between! Take your pick! Please find a small spot

Helping Las Vegas Basset Rescue http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 11

LVBR continues to take in more homeless hounds. They join the other dogs in our rescue waiting to be adopted. Some dogs are in hospice foster care and will be with LVBR forever. Roosevelt, pictured, came back to LVBR after his adopter passed away. Since his return to us it was discovered Roosevelt has an inoperable cancer. He joins Cubby, also with a terminal cancer, living a contented life with foster parents, Mary and Wayne. We are blessed with many wonderful foster homes--but never enough of them. For many of our adoptable dogs there are no available foster homes, so they are boarding. Medical bills for things like vaccines, spays/neuters, bloodwork, medical tests and surgeries, medications, etc. are piling up at a rapid rate. These medical and boarding bills must be paid. Soon. We do not have unlimited credit.

Eddie's Roadside Memorial http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 12

In 2002 Joe Martori adopted "Eddie" from LVBR. They traveled the highway of life together, Eddie riding shotgun, eventually moving from Las Vegas to Phoenix. Eddie couldn't have been more loved, but Joe always felt he was the one blessed by having Eddie with him all these years. Eddie recently passed away after a bout with cancer and Joe made a very special tribute to his beloved Basset--complete with Eddie's picture for all the world to see. Rest in Peace, Eddie. From Joe: "For the last few years I've been taking photos of roadside crosses and memorials. Eddie was in the passenger seat for most of them--mostly looking annoyed and trying to steal my beef jerky. This is the memorial I had made for him. It's seven feet tall, made of steel and aluminum, anchored in 180 lbs.

Hospice Hound, Cubby http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 13

Cubby came from the shelter in a neglected state. We don't know his age--let's just say he's a "Distinguished Older Gentleman." Cubby had extensive testing, a major dental to fix his rotten mouth, had some lumps removed, and was put on daily medicine to help ease his arthritis aches. In his foster home with Mary and Wayne, Cubby has learned the comforts of a real home. He learned it was okay to sleep on a cushy dog bed and not on the cold hard floor. He learned that food would come regularly, be plentiful, and taste good. He came to know gentle hands. Cubby is relishing each wonderful day being treated as a member of a loving family. He didn't even mind wearing this silly hat when he posed for his picture--he took it all in stride. We hoped he

Eight is Enough http://www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com/index.php#news 14

LVBR received word of a Basset momma and her seven mixed breed pups who had been abandoned in a remote desert area 200 miles from Las Vegas. Through the cooperation of animal control in that area, we took these dogs into our rescue on September 21st. The pups appear to be about 6 months old; Momma is about 4 years old. This video tells their story as they came into rescue. Please help us to help them. From all the volunteers of LVBR, we thank you.
