Kal apparently never met a lap he didn't like.....and with his smaller size, he'll fit in yours just fine, thank you! This handsome boy is 5 years old and was previously neutered. Kal was turned in to our local shelter when his family moved. The family reported Kal is good with kids, cats, and other dogs. We got to spend time with him at the recent Pet-a-Palooza event and he was wonderful and welcoming to everyone who came up to greet him. He rides well in a car, too. With his lovable, quiet personality we don't think he will be hanging out in the Rescue very long. If you'd like to adopt Kal, please submit an online application. His adoption fee will be $150.

Georgia is a 6 year old recent mother, whose babies have now been weaned and adopted. She has been spayed and brought current on her shots, and she is now ready for own forever home. Look at her gorgeous face and one blue eye! Georgia is one of the sweetest, most well-behaved bassets we've ever seen. She's also very playful and gets along with everyone she meets. She was separated from her mate, Higgins--also available for adoption--while she raised her puppies. They would love a home where they can enjoy their empty nest together, but if you already have a buddy for Georgia to play with, she'd also be okay with that. If you'd like to give Georgia--or Georgia and Higgins as a pair--a forever home, please send us your online application. Georgia's single adoption fee will be $150; the joint adoption fee for Georgia and Higgins will be $250.

The handsome Higgins is no professor, but he certainly has the same charm and confident demeanor of the classic movie and theater character. His Eliza Doolittle is "Georgia" (also available for adoption). Although they've been separated now for several months, he hopes to reunite with her in the right forever home. If he can't, however, he will certainly enjoy other dogs and be good with kids and felines also. Higgins is 7 years old and has only a hint of brown to go with his primarily black and white coloring. If you'd like to give Higgins (or Higgins and Georgia together) a forever home, please send us your online application. Higgins single adoption fee will be $150; the joint adoption fee for Higgins and Georgia will be $250.

With Munchkin being returned to LVBR after 8 years, we set an adoption return record we never wanted to set. But we have always been committed to the lifetime placement of any dog we rescue. So, we welcomed this beautiful 9 year old girl back with open arms when her owner's home was lost to foreclosure. Munchkin is in great shape and a beautiful girl. She's very playful for her years and gets along with with everyone she meets, whether they have two or four legs. Right now, Munchkin is boarding with her buddy, Scamp, an 8 year old Schnauzer mix who came along with Munchkin from the same home. If you'd like to give Munchkin another chance at a forever home, or foster her her in the meantime, please submit an online application. Munchkin's senior adoption fee will be $100.

He is an 8 year old Schnauzer mix with a larger-than-life, playful personality. He gets along great with other dogs, kids, and cats. Scamp is being boarded right now and would love to find a foster or forever home with his friend Munchkin. But he'd be okay with a home of his very own, too. Please let us know with an online application if you'd like to meet Scamp. His adoption fee will be $100.

These sweet girls are so cute together! Daisey (ID # 896) is 6 years old, primarily black and white, and the more bodacious of the two. Sister Maddie (ID # 897) is 7 years old, with classic tri-coloring and a slightly taller and skinnier frame. They are not sisters by DNA, but they became very bonded when Daisey's family adopted Maddie several years ago. When the family could no longer care for the girls, they called LVBR. We have been lucky enough to find a foster home where the girls can stay together for now. Their foster mom reports that they are a joy and could not be easier to care for. They immediately got along with the other dogs in the home--cats, too. They really prove what any multi-basset home already knows: Bassets are like potato chips, you can't have just one! Daisey and Maddie are devoted to one another and all they need now is a loving home that will be devoted to them--oh, and of course provide plenty of belly-rubs. The joint adoption fee for Daisey and Maddie will be $250.

Bandit --aka Bandito, is one of our newest rescues. Although he was called a Basset Hound Mix by the folks at our locak shelter, we're guessing he has more corgi-chihuahua going on here than anything else--or something equally funky. He is our "funky and fun" boy, though, that's for sure. Bandit is belived to be 1 to 1.5 years old, but we don't know that for sure since he came to the shelter as a stray. His energy level sure matches a dog of that age. The fact that he sat still long enough to get an adoption portrait was a miracle. But don't worry, he's not wild, just appropriately lively and playful. He enjoys playing with other dogs and has a great disposition with people. His behavior with cats, though, is still to be determined. Bandit's adoption fee will be $150.

And, he couldn't be sweeter with people and other dogs. At 3 years old, we have no idea why he showed up as a stray at the local shelter and was never reclaimed. He was listed as a bloodhound mix--he just looks like a gangly red-haired hound to us, but you never know! LVBR got the call since there are no bloodhound rescues nearby. He did have kennel cough briefly, which is why the shelter called us fro help. But, he healthy now and ready to go to a Forever Home or Foster Home today.
Miss Maggie is a bodacious babe. Full-figured and full of personality. This short little gal has the cutest waddle when she walks--everyone who sees her just has to sigh "awwww!". She's a love bug and can snuggle better than any basset we know. Maggie came to us when her "mom" could no longer give her enough attention. Maggie's "dad" died in a car accident and mom had to work more jobs to keep up for the loss of income. She didn't feel it was fair that Maggie had to spend so much time alone, so she did a very unselfish thing and asked us to find Maggie a new home. Maggie is just 8 years old. Looks and acts much younger. She rides well in the car, walks well on a leash, and loves children. She doesn't understand what's happened to her life and is anxious to have her own home again. Maggie is in good health and just had a dental. If you like your bassets round and squishably soft, Maggie is the girl for you. Her adoption fee will be $150.

Little Howie is on the small side (only 25 lbs.), and he doesn't have much, if any, basset in him. Our best guess is he's a dachshund mixed with who-knows-what, but Animal Control checked him in to our local shelter as a stray basset hound mix, and the rest is history. Howie, who is estimated to be 4-6 years old, arrived at the shelter with broken hips and numerous lacerations, and it is suspected he was on the losing end of a battle with a car (this is his shelter photo--it's how they transported him since he couldn't walk). But the good news is Howie's hip surgery, done by one of our LVBR vets, was very successful. He's healing up wonderfully and expected to make a full recovery. Howie is now four weeks post-surgery and ready for a foster or adoptive home that will treat him in the manner to which he would like to become accustomed. He would do best in a quiet home with either senior or no dogs--at least until he's fully healed. He can and should engage in a full range of activities, but he'll need to be able to rest and go at his own pace, which a younger and more playful companion may not appreciate. If you would like to help Howie by fostering or adopting, or by making a donation to help with the costs of his recent surgery, please put in an online application or contact us through the website. Howie's adoption fee will be $150.

Just like the handsome hunks he's named after in the movie of the same name. Mike has an introspective personality, loves to take walks, and the Basset part of him sure does love belly rubs!
Poncho is 60 lbs. of hunky, handsome Basset Hound, with a big ol' head and long ears. Approx. 5 years old, he loves to run around and play with the little dog--and other bassets--in his foster home. He rides quietly in the car and even cooperates when given a bath. Poncho came into rescue with chronically infected ears. No amount of treatment helped his problem and pain. So, he had ear ablation surgery, in which the painful ear canals were removed (please Google "ear ablation surgery in dogs" for more info). It's a miracle surgery that gives dogs like Poncho a new lease on life. His hearing is mostly gone, but he can still hear muffled sounds. He responds to hand signals, and when with the other dogs, follows their lead. Poncho is quite a lovable character who enjoys counter-cruising (watch your sandwich) and also knows how to lift the toilet seat to get a drink. I guess he's a "help-yourself" kind of guy! Because of his hearing deficit, a child could easily startle him, so a home with no kids is ideal for Poncho. If you'd like consider Poncho as an addition to your family, please complete the online application and a volunteer will contact you. Poncho's adoption fee will be $150.

He loves to lay on the couch with his head in his foster mom's lap while she watches TV. Yogi is agreeable with everyone around him, even a stranger quickly becomes a friend. He gets along so well with all the other dogs in his foster home. Yogi has such soft fur, it's like velvet. Our vet believes this boy is only about 6 years old. The shelter thought he was older because Yogi has a cloudy affect on his eyes. Although not blind, his vision is probably somewhat blurry. He takes drops in both eyes daily. Yogi takes treats so gently and he's never one to push to get what he wants. He's a true gentleman and, like all dogs, wants to give love and affection.

Peaches is just like her name states: a real peach of a gal. She is best friends with Rufus and would like to remain with him in a new home. She's quiet, gentle, small, and loving. Peaches is also a brave girl. Last year she had part of her lower jaw removed due to a non-cancerous growth. As she healed, she learned how to eat all over again with her new face. Now she chomps away with the best of the hounds! Her little pink tongue sticks out, as if she's giving you the raspberry! This sweet 8 year old gal never asks for much--just love, belly rubs, and a comfy place to hang out. If you think you could foster or adopt this wonderful, deserving pair, please put in the online application. Thank you.

Rufus is a classic red and white handsome man. He's 9 years young and loves Peaches, also featured on our site. They have been together forever and wish to remain so. Through thick and thin, side by side, loyal friends. Rufus has been described by his foster family as "the perfect dog". No glitches, just pure enjoyment. Excellent house manners, full of love and devotion. Please consider giving Rufus and his lady friend, Peaches, a home to enjoy. They will return your love ten-fold.

Satchmo is big, squeezable hunk of Basset. The name Satchmo is short for satchel mouth--think Louis Armstrong's nickname! Our Satchmo does have a generous Basset mouth, complete with classic flappy flews. Approx. 8 years old, he loves attention and belly rubs. He walks well on a leash and rides great in the car. He'll sit patiently to wait for his treats, will fetch a ball, and is familiar with using a doggie door. His favorite place is next to you on the couch. Satchmo needs a home with no cats because he feels they are squeak toys to chase and bother. However, we've learned he does need a canine companion in his new home so he won't be lonely when the family is away from the house. He's used to having a couple of other Bassets with him in his foster home. Satchmo has a strong male personality and would do best with a female dog or as a solo hound. If you are interested in Satch, please fill out the online application here on our site. His adoption fee will be $150. www.lasvegasbassetrescue.com

Lucas has been in a LVBR foster home for 3 years now, making him about 11 years old. He bloomed with his foster mom and dad, but never had the right home come along for him. He's a wonderful dog, very obedient, good with cats and other dogs. Over the years Lucas has slowly lost his hearing. He responds well to hand signals, making eye contact with his people, and also follows the lead of his "brothers"--the two other bassets in the home. We know that Lucas will likely be a "permanent foster" after all this time. He believes he's adopted, and that's all that matters. He's loved and feels totally at home. LVBR has several hounds who have become permanent fosters over time. As long as they are safe, happy, and loved--that's our goal.
