Dexter was adopted from LVBR by
Ramona and her husband in Nov 2005.
He was only 7 months old at the
time. They loved Dexter instantly
and became a tight knit family of
three. Unfortunately, Mona's husband
died a year ago and she's had
financial hardships since
then. She's had to move several
times, and at the end of the month
may be without a home for even
herself. With a broken heart she has
asked us to find her beloved Dexter
a new family to love him. The many
changes have taken a toll on Dex emotionally.
The illness and death of his dad,
the moves, knowing his mom is sad,
have made him clingy and initially
afraid of new situations. He's a
Basset with a sensitive soul and
needs an understanding human to help
him through this tough time.
He's okay with calmer dogs, but
hyper canines (like pups) make him
defensive. He's had no experience
with cats. Dex might do best with a
couple or single person who can
lavish him with love and socialize
him to new situations. He's had no
real interaction with children, so
we think it's best he be in an adult
home or one with older children, if
any. A big boy at 60 lbs, he can be
a counter-cruiser and doesn't like
to give up yummy food he's stolen!
Dex is a cuddle-bug and we hope he
will bond quickly to his new family.
At only 3.5 years old, this very
handsome boy has a lifetime of
devotion to give. If you think you
might be right for Dexter please put
in the Online Application. Thank you
for reading Dexter's story. It
continues to be LVBR's mission to
rescue, heal, and re-home Basset
Hounds in need. And we send our
Basset prayers to Mona during this
difficult time. |
